OPENING

The Basics – For each and every room, remember to...

  1. Open the blinds delicately. Avoid pulling on the cord, grab both sides of the blinds instead.
  2. Thermostat is on automatic, adjust between 15-17 only if open at non-standard times..
  3. Turn the lights on (including light switches, lamps, and display case lights)
  4. ** Pick up any clutter or trash or unusual thing that you might see on the floor/any surface! **


ALARM

  • Contact office staff for keypad code
  • Should the alarm go off, call the alarm system company, Genesis at 604 669 0822
  • They will ask you for the following information:
    • Our address: 1415 Barclay Street, Vancouver
    • Get Genesis Password from notice in upstairs office


Important Notes on some rooms

DOWNSTAIRS:

Entrance Hall

  • The lamp on the desk is left on overnight.
  • Another switch for the Aurora lamp and the staircase light can be found at the top of the staircase.
  • Take “OPEN FOR TOURS” or Sunday’s “TEA & TOUR” sign out [placeholders by the museum sign] Extra signs are kept in the closet in the master bedroom.

Parlour

  • Turn fireplace on [remote control hidden on shelf near vase]
  • Note lamp by the couch, lamp on the piano, and shelf light on
  • Turn on light for hallway by large clock. Switch is behind bellows on right of fireplace.

Dining Room

  • Note display shelf light
  • Turn light behind screen and mannequin on [switch is on the floor]

Master Bedroom

  • Turn on lamp. You can plug it in underneath the nightstand, next to the chamber pot or at extension cord at the base of the lamp.

Den

  • Note Gustav memorabilia shelf light switch in between two music players
  • Photography shelf light and desk lamp controlled by power bar behind armchair
  • Check restrooms for supplies [soap, toilet paper, and paper towels]

Pantry

  • Check for supplies [milk, cookies, sugar]

Kitchen

  • Make sure outside door is locked [turned horizontally]

UPSTAIRS:

Office (During Docent Duty)

  • Take Cash Box from lowest drawer underneath the printer
  • Count $50 in Cash Box float
  • Take attendance sheet
  • Remember to take Cash Box to Front Hall [place inside drawer of long table with brochures and guest book]
  • If office is unattended, lock office door


Sewing Room

  • Light switch on.

Attic

  • Note attic (turret) doorway. Only leave one door open.
  • Turn on light switch from inside.

Collections Room

  • Turn display shelf light on to “Auto” [above first shelf]

Back Staircase

  • Turn light switch on [top of stairs OR bottom of stairs]

CLOSING

  2. Thermostat is on automatic, adjust between 12-15 only if open at non-standard times.
  3. Close all doors, make sure that all latches are in horizontal positions (den, pantry, kitchen)
  4. Turn the lights off (including lamps and shelf lights)
  5. ** Pick up any clutter or trash or unusual thing that you might see on the floor/any surface! **

ALARM

  • Step near the alarm and make sure green check mark is on
  • Press and hold on the “empty house” button until you hear a beeping noise
  • Exit the premises

DOWNSTAIRS:

Den

  • Check restrooms for supplies [soap, toilet paper, and paper towels]
  • Note Gustav memorabilia shelf light [switch in between two music players]
  • Note photography shelf light and desk lamp off using power bar behind armchair
  • Make sure back door is locked [turned horizontally]

Master Bedroom

  • Note lamp light [plug underneath the nightstand, next to the chamber pot] or unplug lamp from extention cord by base of lamp.

Pantry

  • Check supplies are placed in fridge [Milk, Sugar, etc]

Kitchen

  • Make sure door is locked [turned horizontally]

Dining Room

  • Note display shelf light off [just behind shelf]
  • Note light behind screen and mannequin off [switch is on the floor]

Parlour

  • Turn fireplace off [remote control hidden near vase]
  • Turn light for hallway by large clock off. Switch is behind bellows on right of fireplace.
  • Note lamp on top of piano
  • Note lamp by the couch

Front Hall

  • Bring “OPEN for Tours” Sign into the house. [place behind umbrella rack]
  • Turn off lamp on table with Frances Rattenbury’s Portrait]
  • Note Aurora Lamp [light switch next to Roedde family portrait AND top of stairs]
  • Leave lamp on desk on overnight.

UPSTAIRS

Office (During Docent Duty)

  • Count $50 in Cash Box float [use as many small bills and change as possible]
  • Count and calculate admission according to attendance sheet
  • Place profits and attendance sheet in Ziploc bag and place in bottom of cash box in lowest drawer under the printer

Sewing Room

  • Room light swith off

Collections Room

  • Turn display shelf light to ”Off” [above first shelf]

Back Staircase

  • Turn light switch off [top OR bottom of stairs]
