Movie at the Museum – Titanic Tea: Tragedies at Sea
April 20, 2023 @ 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Join us at historic Roedde House Museum on Thursday, April 20th at 7pm for tea and cookies and special screenings which cover two tragedies at sea which would have been newsworthy during the Roeddes’ time. Screening will take place in our Victorian Parlour.
We’ll be showing:
1) The Sinking of the Lusitania, 1918: an animated dramatization of the notorious World War I German torpedoing of the ocean liner, Lusitania.
2) In Nacht und Eis (In Night and Ice), 1912: German film about the sinking of the RMS Titanic. Filming began during the summer of 1912 (the same year the tragedy happened) and the film premiered that winter of 1912. The film’s special effects were impressive for that time.
3) Silent footage from the Titanic before sailing.
Roedde House was built in 1893 for the family of Gustav Roedde and his family. The house was designed by architect Francis Rattenbury, and the family lived in the home from 1893 to 1920. The museum reflects the family’s time in the house during the 1890s and early 1900s.
