Preserving the past for the future

Roedde House Museum, in Vancouver's West End at 1415 Barclay Street, is a late-Victorian home in the Queen Anne revival style. Built in 1893 for the family of Gustav Roedde, the city's first bookbinder, it has been faithfully restored to reflect the day-to-day life of a middle class, immigrant family at the turn of the last century. The Museum offers a unique experience for visitors as, unlike many heritage houses, the rooms are not roped off or behind glass, and some of the artifacts may be handled, with care.

Roedde House Museum is situated in Barclay Heritage Square, a unique "park-with-houses", comprised of nine refurbished houses dating from 1890 to 1908 surrounded by gardens, lawns and pleasant paths. The site, maintained by the Vancouver Park Board, covers a city block. A guide to the plantings and architecture in the Square is available at the Museum.

The Museum offers guided tours, concert and lecture series, and an award-winning schools program for elementary students.

The House may also be rented for weddings, receptions, meetings, film sets, photo shoots and other private events. Its restored interior lends charm and sparks conversation at any event.
